This sculptural piece has been achieved through a tour de force of knitting: over 3500 nylon spheres dyed in four colours were needed, taking much longer than even Nora expected

This exhibition takes its name from Mrs Miniver’s Problem, a concept in geometry concerned with overlapping circles. According to Jan Struther’s wartime character Mrs Miniver, a relationship of two people should share exactly two thirds of their interests. This course is suitable for knitters who can already knit and follow a basic knitting pattern. Working on a small bag project using Rowan Glace Cotton, you will be shown the following techniques: how to read a knitted chart, how to strand yarns across the wrong side of the work (fair isle), how to keep the tension even and the knitting flat, how to weave in yarns on the wrong side of the work (fair isle), how to join in new colours (intarsia), how to avoid holes between colour changes (intarsia), how to knit in beads using the slip stitch technique.

During UK AWARE we will be enticing visitors to the Kids Area to join in with creating a ‘Forest Fantasy’ from anything we can lay our hands on. The forest is bound to get a little woolie as Craft Club will be collaborating in the creation – why not bring something challenging like a plastic bag or elastic bands and they will give you a knitting lesson (men in particular may enjoy this)

Wonderwool Wales 2011, the premier festival in Wales for wool and natural fibres.  2011 will be our third year of running the event. We are a very small group of wool and fibre producers / textile artists who are dedicated to promoting the use of natural fibres. Wonderwool celebrates everything woolly and we have over 150 stands with yarns, hand dyed rovings, equipment, books, designer finished products, fibre for felting and much, much more. Wonderwool Wales is a must for all ‘fibreholics’, whether you knit, spin, weave, crochet or felt. Come and try something new, get inspiration and meet interesting like minded people.  Our Interactive Area is a great place to meet up with friends, knit and natter or have a go at something new with the help of our experts. The Sheepwalk will be taking place twice a day on both days and has proved very popular with visitors, it is a great showcase for our designer exhibitors.

The workshop explores where designers get ideas from for beginners and those of you who would like to explore this topic in depth with a sympathetic and experienced tutor.  You dont need to worry if you think you cannot draw.  We will be looking at a whole range of techniques for getting ideas down onto paper by way of a person sketch book/journal based on text and sound patterns.  Suitable for anyone interested in designing from first principles in all areas of textile design including knitting.
